5 Tips to Boost Your Immunity during the Holidays

Hi everyone! I'm really excited because Christmas season is almost here. I already have a list of things that I'm going to do - paint my nails, color some books, play video games. However, it is a known fact that it is one of the busiest time of the year. We would all be stressed with bad traffic (especially in Metro Manila), long lines in the mall cashier, bumping into a lot of people while we shop for gifts and a lot more stressful incidences. Too much stress is a bad thing so I have here 5 tips (with illustrations drawn by me) which can help boost your immunity during the holidays.

Eat healthy. I know it's tempting to eat a lot this holiday season but eating healthy doesn't equate to going on a diet. You can still eat your favorite food but remember to eat in moderation. If you can't stop eating junk food, then at least lessen it. Remember to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your meals. 

Exercise. This can be in many ways. You don't have to enroll yourself in a gym. You can walk around your neighborhood, take the stairs instead of the elevator and do some chores. You can even just play your favorite upbeat song and dance to it. Plus, you can lose those extra calories you have consumed. 

Hydrate. Drink water. Water is an important component of our body. In fact, it makes up 60% of our body weight. It transports nutrients to the different parts of the body (via blood), it removes waste products in the body, lubricates our eyes and mouth, and cushions our brain. I won't enumerate the rest of its functions but I do hope you get an idea of its importance. 

Don't smoke. If you can stop it cold turkey, then please do so. One stick has a lot of dangerous chemicals that are harmful not only to your body but also to those around you. 

Sleep. After a tiring day, remember to rest and have at least 6 hours of sleep. Your body needs to recharge for another day. Even robots need to recharge. Remember Baymax?

Those are my 5 tips for you. However, as a bonus, I have one more tip for you. Drinking supplemental vitamins can further boost your immunity. One of which is Fern-C (sodium ascorbate) which is vitamin C. 

Vitamin C is important in collagen synthesis. Take note that collagen is a component of our skin. It keeps the integrity of the skin. It also has an antioxidant activity. Free radicals steal electrons from a stable component in the body which would disrupt the system. Antioxidants pair with free radicals to prevent them from causing disruption. It also facilitates the absorption of iron in our duodenum. 

Since Fern-C is vitamin C, it can do the points mentioned above. But since it has an added component which is sodium, it keeps it buffered. This means that it is less acidic. With that, it lessens the gastrointestinal problems of those taking it as compared to those who take plain ascorbic acid.
